Through a combination of workforce development, mentorship, and consistent support, TYES (Toronto Youth Equity Strategy) creates real pathways toward stability and long-term success.

Challenges are compounded by systemic racism and discrimination, especially for Black youth facing the effects of trauma and violence. At Fernie Youth Services, we are breaking down these barriers holistically by addressing the unique challenges young people face every day.

Strengthening Systems Around Youth

Youth success does not happen in isolation. Strengthening partnerships with Probation services and community support teams remains an important opportunity to better support young people navigating the system.

Our goals and targets may include:

  • Housing stability
  • Improving family relationships and positive friends
  • School and/or Employment support
  • Recreational activities
  • Mental health & addiction issues
  • Life-skills
  • Addressing involvement in the criminal justice system

Our recent program highlight:

One young man successfully completed forklift certification, an important step toward seuring stable employment. With continued support from his case manager, he is now exploring opportunities to build confidence in his next steps.

“A recent win for me is with one of the young men I have been working with…He is respectful, hard-working and wanting to find ways for personal development”

This is what effective youth programming looks like. Through TYES, participants gain practical skills, workplace readiness, and the support needed to move forward with purpose.

Additionally, many youths are focused on building their futures – registering for school, securing housing and employment, or obtaining G1 licenses.

“Seeing clients take ownership of their goals and grow in confidence has been incredibly rewarding, and these everyday wins continue to highlight the impact of our program”

These moments matter and reflect what meaningful investment in youth can look like. Trust, stability, alignment, and connection are often the first steps toward long-term success and motivation.
