Toronto, ON:  Recently, local MPP Vijay Thanigasalam stopped by Fernie Youth Services during its annual George Fernie Day, which celebrates its founder and mission to serve youth in and at risk of being in conflict with the law on a journey towards reintegration and purposeful living. MPP Thanigasalam acknowledged the organization’s 59 years of service and heard how a $25,000 Resilient Community Fund grant it received from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) in 2022 was used to update Fernie’s technological infrastructure in response to heightened demand for Youth Justice services.

Fernie Youth Services is updating internal communication software to a thoroughly researched cloud-based system capable of information sharing between staff across different programs and locations. In addition, the software supports data tracking and donor management to ensure the sustainability of the organization.

“With the new OTF funding, Fernie Youth Services is embracing the future. We’re excited to implement technology solutions that will enhance how we connect with and support the youth in our community,” said Jeff Johnson, CEO, Fernie Youth Services

Fernie Youth Services gives opportunities to young people who have been given up on, often based on their position in society. Offering community reintegration, safe housing, and employment readiness programming to youth in conflict with the law across the GTA, Fernie transforms young lives and creates safer communities.

Fernie Youth Services has served the community and created purposeful adults for 59 years. To learn more about Fernie Youth Services go to fernieyouth.ca.
